Enhancing the Learning Experience with Technology
As a teacher who uses interactive whiteboards and other teaching tools that today’s world has to offer both in physical classrooms as well as online, I only see this trend getting bigger, more encompassing, more accessible, and more integrated in every facet of the education system.
The abundance and ever evolving number of tools that the internet provides to ESL learners never ceases to amaze me! This week let’s take a look at one way to practice your listening comprehension skills which I am confident most people have not even heard of yet. They are called “Choose your own adventure” movies. Ever read a “Choose your own adventure” book? The kind where every few pages you need to make a decision based on the situation and “go to” the corresponding page- thus, in fact, “choosing” the direction of the story. Well, nowadays, it’s done through film as well. That’s right. You simply watch a short episode (usually 3-5minutes in duration) and then you need to make a decision and decide which way the story will proceed. You make the decision by simply clicking on your computer screen! Want to try? These movies are suited for Intermediate (L5) to Advanced (L8+) students and hopefully more will come out that are accessible to all levels of students soon.
